What is Heritage & Heirloom?
What are heritage breeds and heirloom plants and why should we support them? Heirlooms are described as a plant that has a history of being handed down to generations of a family, like furniture from your relatives. Other companies have tried to create definitions based on date, such as anything older than 50 years and some have historical data which we have some of. Usually, Heirloom plants seeds that are at least 50 years old passed down because of their amazing nature, some of those are the most vigorous, disease resistant, flavorful, or beautiful what ever the reason each one might have. Heirloom plants often look different from commercial hybrids, which make up the most of supermarket produce. Heirlooms are better for you, they are considered a "dense" foods with more nutrients and flavor in every bite. Heirlooms have become popular as organizations like Slow Food and Seed Savers Exchange continue to promote the genetic diversity of plant species. We are adapting particular heirlooms for the short season climates, that offer the same taste and production any other tomato. But heirloom doesn’t just about plants, animals like our ducks are heritage breeds, very much like heirlooms. They are prized for their flavor and dual purpose meat and eggs.Login
